Franklin Roosevelt is the assistant secretary of defense. Thomas Dewey is running for president with a blunt-speaking Missourian named Harry Truman at his side. Britain holds onto its desperate alliance with the USA's worst enemy, while a holocaust unfolds in Texas. In Harry Turtledove's compelling, disturbing, and extraordinarily vivid reshaping of American history, a war of secession has triggered a generation of madness. The tipping point has come at last. The third war in sixty years, this one yet unnamed: a grinding, horrifying series of hostilities and atrocities between two nations sharing the same continent and both calling themselves Americans. At the dawn of 1944, the United States has beaten back a daredevil blitzkrieg from the Confederate States--and a terrible new genie is out of history's bottle: a bomb that may destroy on a scale never imagined before. In Europe, the new weapon has shattered a stalemate between Germany, England, and Russia. When the trigger is pulled in America, nothing will be the same again. With visionary brilliance, Harry Turtledove brings to a climactic conclusion his monumental, acclaimed drama of a nation's tragedy and the men and women who play their roles--with valor, fear, and folly--on history's greatest stage.

Fire, Fusion and Steel Technical Architecture

http://scifi.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=129

Publisher: Game Designers' Workshop (GDW)

FIRE, FUSION, and STEEL The Traveller Technical Architecture...

puts you in control of your science fiction game in ways that no other product ever has!

Science fiction is about diversity, the unusaual, and pressing the cutting edge of science. It's not suited to simple lists of equipment that limit play. Each different world's enviroment: calls for slightly different approaches to transportation, communication, and even weaponry. You need rules to design whatever equipment you need, and as many different variations of it as your players find uses for. More than that, you don't need jargon and double-talk; you need to understand enough of the science behind the equipment that you can see how it works, understand its limitations, and make the game come alive.

Fire, Fusion, and Steel has all of that and more. Starships, aircraft, and vehicles, in almost infinite variation, are at your command, from fusion power grav tanks to advanced technology lighter-than-air ships, from gigantic armored star cruisers to delicate ornithopters.

Pick your power plants from a selection that ranges from primitive steam engines to matter-antimatter annihilation, with side excursions to solar power, batteries, explosive power generation, or even cold fusion.

Tired of just playing with jump drives? tailor your campaign around a wide selection of FTL options, from natural wormholes to stargates, stutterwarp, or hyperspace drives. Or if FTL is too advanced for you, conquer space the hard way with Bussard hydrogen ram jets or Daedalus thermonuclear pulse drives.

The cybernetics chapter alone has dozens of entries and provides a rich basis for adding cybernetic enhancement to any science fiction game.

Weaponry isn't slighted either. Rules and supporting data enable you to design small arms, conventional cannons, gauss weapons, plasma and fusion weapons, lasers, particle accelerators, meson guns, missles, and more. Or counter them with reactive armor , electrostatic armor, meson screens, or nuclear dampers.

Fire, Fusion, and Steel gives you unprecedented control over your campaign enviroment by not only providing a variety of design rules (and exploring the physics behind them in layman's terms), but also by covering a wide variety of technologies not part of the core Traveller game universe. It is a sourcebook on universe building for any science fiction referee, and an indispensable reference work on future technology.

Four years later the Commercial Technology Division of the World Community Research Council was absorbed into the WTA structure, including the fabrication yards of the Space Research Centre.

Following the Trade Agreement with Alpha Centauri, the name was changed to the Terran Trade Authority and its responsibility was extended to cover interstellar commerce. To meet the growing demand for more extensive spacecraft manufacturing facilities, the TTA undertook the construction of the great Mars Shipyards which were completed in 2146, although ships were coming off the slips as early as 2138.

Primarily an administrative body, the TTA is nevertheless also a major manufacturing concern, producing a wide range of specialized products from medical and scientific research equipment to the energy-absorbent Defense Shields of which it is the sole supplier.

Here at last is the comprehensive, all-color guide to the major spacecraft of the last century, 2100 to 2200 AD, the time of the great advances in space technology that followed the first, hesitant steps of the early 21st century.

Primarily an identification manual, it examines the major types of spacecraft operating during the period, including those inhabited systems of Alpha and Proxima Centauri, giving details of their development and operational history, and charts of their technical specifications. The book is divided into sections covering Military, Civil and Commercial and Special Function, and the craft range from sleek interceptors through specialized research vessels to private yachts.

The individual stories of these craft are set against the historical background which created them. New industrial techniques and resources led to more advanced ships which opened the door to further possibilities in an accelerating spiral of development.

Here then, is the story of humanity and rsquo;s journey to the stars and the means by which it was made.

Please Note: This is not an RPG product but rather, is the inspiration for the upcoming Terran Trade Authority Roleplaying Game. Starfleet is renewing its mission of peaceful exploration, diplomacy, and the expansion of knowledge. Among the starships spearheading that endeavor is the U.S.S. Titan, commanded by Captain William T. Riker and manned by the most biologically varied and culturally diverse crew in Starfleet history. But their mission does not begin according to plan. In the wake of Star Trek (R) Nemesis, Praetor Shinzon, slayer of the Romulan Senate, is dead. The power vacuum created by his demise has put the Romulan Star Empire, longtime adversary of the Federation, at the brink of civil war. Competing factions now vie for control of their fragmenting civilization, and if the empire should fall, that entire area of the galaxy may destabilize. To restore order to the region, Titan 's long-anticipated mission of exploration is delayed as Starfleet assigns Riker to set up power-sharing talks among the Romulan factions. But even as the first tentative steps are taken toward building a new Romulus, the remnants of the Tal Shiar, the dreaded Romulan intelligence service, are regrouping behind the scenes for a power play of their own. With no other help available, Riker and the Titan crew become the last hope to prevent the quadrant from falling into chaos. "
